(Beibehaltungsgenehmigung)

Update June 27, 2024:

Obtaining a
Beibehaltungsgenehmigung has
become redundant.

On 27 June 2024 a new citizenship
law took effect. In terms of the
Beibehaltungsgenehmigung the bill
essentially provides for the
following changes:

Upon acceptance of a foreign
citizenship, German citizenship is
not lost and a
Beibehaltungsgenehmigung is
no longer required.

Even if you submitted an application
before, it is no longer necessary to give
up your citizenship after the new
regulations take effect.
